An exhibition featuring the first ever artist in residence at Áras Éanna, Michael Mulcahy, will open at the arts centre on Friday, July 8 (8pm).
Mick Mulcahy is one of Ireland’s most famous expressionist artists and showcased his work to the people of Inis Oirr after spending a winter on the island in the late 1980s. From there, the idea to create an arts centre on our small Gaeltacht island took hold.
Mick recently spent a month in our studio at Áras Éanna (February 2022) after returning to Inis Oirr for our 21st birthday celebrations in July 2021.
Many visitors to the island saw him produce stunning paintings outdoors, next to the island’s shop, last summer.
He is a member of Aosdana, the highest honour given to Irish artists, and we are delighted to welcome Mick back to Inis Oirr to feature an exhibition of his acclaimed art work at the arts centre this summer.
His exhibition of new paintings at Áras Éanna is entitled Nowhere to Hide at Sea.
