July and August 2023
‘Cloch/Stone’ -an photographic exhibition by Cormac Coyne and Jacqui Reed and Mr. Hwan Jin Jo
If stone could talk?.. because stone has left hints of a past that stirs our imagination.
Since the dawn of civilisation stone has left clues to our ancestors through carvings, structures, walls and buildings. From burial chambers, dolmens to mounds of stone atop mountains marking a burial site of a legendary hero, the round towers, holy wells and ornate celtic tall crosses depicting early Christianity and gateposts and millstones and plaques and sea markers all leaving clues to how our ancestors worked and lived.
Áras Éanna commissioned an exhibition with photographers Cormac Coyne (Inis Oírr, Galway), Jacqui Reed, (Donegal) and Hwan Jin Jo ( Jeju island, South Korea). This South Korean island has very similar walls dry stone wall to Inis Oírr although their walls are built from volcanic stone. We were delighted to have a delegation from Jeju island on Inis Oírr last summer where we launched this visually exceptional photographic exhibition. We are delighted to have this exhibition at Áras Éanna’s gallery as part of our 2023 programme.
