Join us ‘live’ from Inis Oirr for Culture Night
The women are taking over Inis Oirr this weekend.
And, if you cannot be with us in person on the island, you can join us online for tonight’s special Culture Night event.
From 5pm this evening, for Culture Night, more than 15 women musicians will revive an old tradition by travelling house-to-house, playing music, before finishing up with a big gig at @Aras Eanna Ionad Ealaine.
And, tomorrow night, acclaimed Connemara singer Ceara Conway is bringing a full live band to the theatre on the island.
A night of traditional Irish music on Inis Oírr with more than 15 women ceoltóirí travelling from house to house, dancing at ‘The Leic’ and ending with a free concert at Áras Éanna. Reviving the social nights of music, song and dance traditionally hosted in island households long ago, the audience will be welcomed into family kitchens in four of the island’s villages for a celebration of women in music.
Featuring musicians and singers from Inis Oírr along with musicians who are regular visitors to the island including Aimee Farrell Courtney (bodhrán), Aisling Parslow (fiddle), Ashley O’Toole (dancer), Áine O’Brien (ukulele), Brona Graham (banjo), Bríd Ní Chualáin (low whistle), Ceara Conway (singer), Isobel Donnery (bodhrán), Hannah Ní Chonghaile (concertina), Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola (singer), Leona McKenna (whistle), Marion McEvoy (mandolin & guitar), Róisín Ní Dhomhnaill (singer & whistle), Saoirse Grady (fiddle), and Úna Ní Fhlannagáin (harp).
