Áras Éanna and Galway County Arts Office are delighted to announce an open call for Galway County artists to apply for a residency in May. Áras Éanna is the most westerly arts centre in Europe, located on the small Gaeltacht island of Inis Oírr in Co. Galway. The centre supports artists through its Artist in Residence programme. We offer artists the time and space to develop their practice and show new work in the unique environment of this island, which has a population of just under 300 people. AIR on the Edge
Open Call: AIR on the Edge is a one-month international artist residency exchange between Denmark, Finland, Ireland, The Netherlands and Serbia. It focuses on artists’ professional development, creating opportunities to engage with rural communities and connect with host organisations, communities, nature, heritage and cultural landscapes of a variety of rural places and cities. Creative professionals living or working in County Galway (Ireland), Fryslan (The Netherlands, Novi Sad (Serbia), Pirkanmaa (Finland) or Ringkøbing-Skjern (Denmark) are eligible and invited to apply for one of ten artistic residencies that will be awarded. Jessie brings Aboriginal songs to the island
A musical and cultural treat is in store at Áras Éanna this Friday evening (November 18) when Aboriginal artist Jessie Lloyd brings the indigenous songs of Australia to our theatre (8pm). Jessie is a vocalist, guitarist, bassist, and ukulele player from the tropics of North Queensland, a cultural practitioner of indigenous music who is dedicated to the continuation of song traditions in her native Australia. Dancer Bernadette finds a deep connection on the island

Once again, Aras Eanna has partnered up with the Galway Cartoon Festival to host an exhibition of cartoons in the Irish language in our gallery. The first ever visit by the festival to our Gaeltacht island was hugely impacted by Covid-19, as the cartoonists had to leave during a time of restrictions, but the annual trip out to the island has become a firm favourite with cartoonists from all across Ireland who come to Galway for this annual festival. Join us ‘live’ from Inis Oirr for Culture Night
The women are taking over Inis Oirr this weekend. And, if you cannot be with us in person on the island, you can join us online for tonight’s special Culture Night event. From 5pm this evening, for Culture Night, more than 15 women musicians will revive an old tradition by travelling house-to-house, playing music, before finishing up with a big gig at @Aras Eanna Ionad Ealaine.
