Síreacht agus Sult 12 – 31st October

Bernadette Divilly, dance artist in residence in collaboration with lens based visual artist Cormac Coyne will exhibit in Áras Éanna Arts Centre in October 2024. The exhibition will be launched by Professor Rióna Ní Fhrighil on Saturday 12th of October, and will run for the remainder of the month.

The material of the exhibition was evolved and developed on the island of Inis Oírr in collaboration with local community and visiting dance artists. It will include original dance videos and photography, alongside bilingual dance scores and poetry. Focus and intent of this interactive exhibition is to inspire others to embody their own ancestral influences in terms of landscape, language and relationship to place.

The exhibition will include involvement of professional dance artists Siobhán Ní Dhuinnín, composer Sharon Murphy, Maire Ui Mhaolain, and other compositional artists. Stemming from audience participation and engagement, a series of workshops and labs both on Inis Oírr and Galway City will be offered to both professional dancers and intergenerational and intercultural communities of interest. In these labs an investigation of the themes raised in the exhibition will be key. Labs will be individually tailored for children, adults and seniors. Similar workshops and labs will run through January and into early February 2025 in Galway City.

This exhibition is supported by the Arts Council Dance Artist Residency 2024/25, Áras Éanna Arts Centre and Galway Dance. Gratitude to Galway City Council and Galway County Council for their ongoing support.
