‘Craiceann’, Inis Oírr’s bodhrán summer school has celebrated its’ 21st birthday with its’ annual gathering which was held from the 24th – 28th June. Since its’ foundation Craiceann has been held at Áras Éanna Arts Centre on beautiful Inis Oírr. Bodhrán players, from beginners to advanced, participate in classes, workshops, concerts and events and of course the legendary sessions each evening in the local hotels and pubs. Participants travel from the all over the world to attend this very special summer school.

Áras Éanna arts centre, as a celebration of the Craiceann bodhrán summer school, commissioned Bill Wright to make 20 bodhráns with an artist’s canvas skin that we sent to 21 artists/groups to create arton. The only criteria for the visual artists was that they had to be musicians. A diverse group of artists were selected that included well known musicians, session musicians, school student musicians and a special needs music group.

The exhibition consists of a fantastic range of styles and compositions with the bodhráns/artworks presented in a gallery
layout designed by Dara McGee the director of Áras Éanna. The official launch of the exhibition will take place on 3rd July at 1p.m.
The exhibition runs from July 2nd and runs until August 31st.

An auction for the bodhráns will take place and proceeds will go towards the establishment of a musical instrument library at ÁrasÉanna Arts Centre. Details of the auction will be available on aras-eanna.ie in early July.
