Two Screenings at Áras Éanna on Saturday 6 July

One of Galway Film Society’s (GFS) 60th anniversary initiatives is a pilot collaboration with Áras Éanna, to host two screenings on Inis Oírr.  Celebrating the work of renowned Director Pat Collins: That They May Face The Rising Sun, the adaptation of John McGahern’s 2002 novel and winner of Best Film at The Irish Film and Television Awards 2024; and John McGahern: A Private World, Pat’s documentary that won Best Documentary at the Irish Film and Television Awards 2005.  GFS is privileged to have Pat in attendance to present the screenings and provide audiences with an insight into his highly acclaimed works.

An exploration of the life and work of Ireland’s leading fiction writer, using McGahern’s published memoirs as a backbone. Through intimate interviews, a strong and compelling sense of the man behind the work emerges, offering a rare insight into the creative process.  Link to trailer
