Áras Éanna is Europe’s most westerly Arts Centre located on the smallest of the Aran Islands, Inis Oírr.
Situated in a former weaving factory, Áras Éanna is a multi functioning arts space that includes an artists studio space, a 75 seat theatre, two galleries, a café & various rooms & spaces for workshops & classes
Áras Éanna – Call for Artists in Residence (in absentia)
Áras Éanna’s Artist in Residence programme has seen national and International artists come to Inis Oírr to create and make great Art. Due to the Coronavirus 19 restrictions, Áras Éanna Arts Centre is closed. Despite this Aras Eanna in partnership with Ealaín na Gaeltachta, Galway County Council Arts Office and Galway City Arts Office are offering three residencies (in absentia). We are offering artists the opportunity to create work, albeit from their own home or studio and with the spirit and inspiration of the Inis Oírr in mind.
Mick O’ Dea was born in Ennis Co Clare in 1958. He studied at the National College of Art and Design Dublin, The University of Massachusetts Amherst, Winchester School of Art in Barcelona and Winchester where he was awarded a Masters in European Fine Art. He lectured at NCAD for sixteen years up to 1999 and has acted as an external assessor and lecturer in Art Colleges and Universities in the USA, UK an Ireland.
O’Dea has had numerous exhibitions and has participated in a wide range of artists residencies in Ireland, the USA and Europe.
The recipient of many awards, his most recent include The Ireland US Council / Irish Arts Review Portraiture Award in Dublin and The Royal Ulster Academy Portrait Prize in Belfast.
Toine Horvers' work as an artist consists of performances and descriptive writings. His performative work deals with time and space and is strongly related to the disciplines of dance, music and sound poetry. The performances, often involving other people, are strictly designed movement-sequences, in which the physical and the vocal are inextricably linked.
Toine presents his works internationally in performances, exhibitions and workshops.
Sorcha Fox is a spoken word writer, an actor and a storyliner for Ros na Rún. For her residency at Áras Éanna, she will be working on new pieces in Irish and English connected to identity and place.
