Danger Money

July – Mon – Fri

DANGER MONEY written & performed by Inis Meáin resident John McManus

Danger Money is a darkly funny one-man show set on a bog in county Leitrim where a down-on-his-luck labourer named Teddy “the mucker” Tucker is gathering his landlord’s turf in lieu of rent. He recounts the story of his life, where he has been and where he is going, if anywhere, and muses on the mysteries of life such as should Saint Patrick’s canonization be rescinded, do snakes deserve the bad rep they’ve acquired, are birds the souls of people who have passed on, is it bad luck to take a corpse out of its coffin prior to burial and do we know what we don’t know? After all, a day on the bog compels a man to think.

John McManus is from Cavan but lives on Inishmaan. His first two plays were for radio; No hate going to loss, and Will you swap knees with me? both of which won P.J. O’Connor awards and were broadcast on RTE. His stage plays have been performed in New York, Estonia, Germany and Canada and have been toured around Ireland by the Leitrim actor / director Seamus O’Rourke. Previous plays include The Quare Land, Lone Wolf, The Determinator, Loophole and The Cavan Curse.
